I replied to a Kijiji add for this Ford Lawn Tractor - as you can see in the picture the battery box is held up by twine.
I emailed the seller -
Consider the twine holding up the battery box I think a reasonable site unseen offer would be $2200.
Sellers response-
Thanks for the offer but you have not taken into account just how valuable that twine is. It is imported from Somalia and has been manufactured by artisans using ancient skills and techniques that are still kept secret. In addition the fibers used to make that twine are so rare, they can only make a few meters worth of twine each year. The fibers are actually hair plucked from the back of the wife of the village chief. As this is quite painful they can only perform the plucking a few times every year. The wife of the chief is a very fast runner and it is quite difficult for the villagers to catch her once she gets up to full speed.
If you increase your offer to $3500 I will include an additional handful of twine and include a letter of authenticity signed by the wife of the chief of the village where the twine came from.
My response to the seller -
Thank-you for your confabulatory response! My husband said the email alone is worth another $500 to the price of the tractor plus the signed letter of authenticity, should be worth about $300 ( going by values of other compostable products). Unless the tractor has less running hours than the chief's wife and there is a guarantee that the use of this "pristine" machine would not be as painful as the plucking the chief's wife gets, I would say this tractor would be worth about $3000 inclusive of the rare twine.
The seller is a dealer out of Calgary and needs to be applauded for his time he put into his email. Reading it was one of those - coffee out the nostral moments! Even with the twine I bought the machine just by the pictures and his response. We still are laughing about.
